Zuihōden (Mausoleum of Date Masamune)

Built in 1637, Zuihōden is the mausoleum of Date Masamune. This lavishly ornate structure exemplifies the architectural style of the Momoyama period and was designated a National Treasure in 1931. The original building was destroyed during World War II air raids and reconstructed in 1979. The on-site museum exhibits materials related to the archaeological excavation of the site.
