Millennium Hope Hills Community Center
Created by repurposing land rendered uninhabitable by the tsunami of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, Millennium Hope Hills spans roughly 10 km along the coast and consists of six interconnected parks and pathways. It serves both as a memorial park and as a place for disaster-preparedness education. The bases of the hills incorporate tsunami debris—remnants of people’s former lives—preserving the traces of the disaster and the memories of those affected for future generations.
